2016 Sturgeon Spearing Regulation Pamphlet

Attention Winnebago System Sturgeon Spearing Enthusiasts:

Attached is the Regulation Pamphlet for the 2016 Sturgeon Spearing Season on the Lake Winnebago System.  Please review the regulation pamphlet if you are planning to take part in the 2016 season.  We have dispersed some hard copies of the regulations to license vendors around the Lake Winnebago area as well.  For the most part, the regulations are very similar to seasons past, but there are a few minor changes:

  • Harvest Caps:  The system-wide adult female harvest cap has been increased (878 in 2015 to 950 in 2016).  System-wide harvest caps for the 2016 season will be 430 juvenile females, 950 adult females, and 1220 males.
  • Boom Bay registration station:  The registration station will be moved from the Winnebago County Boat Landing at Boom Bay to Boom Bay Bar and Grill (7884 Cut Off Ln, Larsen).  The Lake Poygan Sportsman Club will maintain an ice road to the channel leading into Boom Bay Bar and Grill, but spearers can also legally transport their fish by road from the boat landing to Boom Bay Bar and Grill.
  • Spearing hole size:  The maximum size of spearing holes is 48 square feet.  This refers to the size of the hole cut in the ice, not the size of the hole in the sturgeon spearing shack.
  • Possession boundaries for transporting unregistered fish:  The boundaries have been updated in code to more accurately represent current road systems.  It is illegal for unregistered sturgeon to be possessed outside of these boundaries.

We are committed to service excellence.
