2-6-14 Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Great walleye, northern pike and panfish action in the central Wisconsin area this past week. 

The Central Wisconsin area has been putting out good numbers of panfish this past week with crappies and bluegills topping the list. Most action is coming from large flats in 8 to 12 feet of water working submerged structure. Finding the structure can be difficult but by using your flasher unit and drilling a ton of holes it can be done.  Once these locations are found mark them with your GPS unit and you will have them forever.

The walleye bite has been very good especially early and late in the day.  Most of the action is from fish feeding on shiners and small suckers in shallow water less than 6 feet deep. Tip-ups like the Beaver Dam tip-ups have been the way to go especially with how cold it has been. Keeping the line from freezing can be an issue but not with the Beaver Dam tip-ups.

For guys looking for action or maybe that one big fish, we have been on a very good northern pike bite. With fish up to 40 inches and plenty of them, this has been one of our best bites of the season.  Most of the action is coming in water less than 10 feet deep running tip-ups baited with large golden shiners and medium sized suckers set 2 to 4 feet off the bottom.  Sunny days have been the best for action but don't rule out cloudy days as these have been our best days for the largest pike.
