2-10-14 Price County Fishing Report
If your venturing out on the lakes, make sure that you know where you are going if traveling with any wheeled vehicle. The heavy snow cover and pockets of slush have made it almost impossible for anything but foot and snowmobile travel. Hopefully warmer temps in the forecast will settle the snow down a little on the lakes and make travel a little more easy. Crappie action is slowly picking back up. The Crappie are hanging very tight to the bottom of the lakes, Look for soft mud bottom areas and jig with waxies for best results. The fish are very finicky but with good electronics and a sensitive ice rod they can be caught. Bluegill action is picking up again as well with some very big fish being taken. Look for the gills in 15 foot of water around cribs or any wood structure. Waxies or Spikes on small glow have been taking most of the gills. Walleye action has been ok but in deeper water, Most of the fishermen setting tip-ups shallow have been coming up empty handed but the fishermen that are getting out in the 12 to 20 foot of water have been getting some nice fish in the mid morning and mid afternoons. We have also been getting reports of Panfishermen getting incidental walleye catches. Small to medium sized spoons with gulp or a minnow head on it is working well. Pictured is a big gill set on the bottom of a 5 gallon pail for the picture and a 20" walleye that we jigged up last week, the walleye was released.
