12-23-13 Price County Fishing Report
With all the family Christmas get togethers, I didn't make it on the ice this week at all but Customers are reporting a slow walleye bite with the best bite being right at dark. Golden shiners are the preferred bait right now. Anglers are split about 50/50 on using treble hooks or a wide gap single hook. I like using a number 2 wide gap Gamakatsu Octopus style hook myself.
The Crappie action has been day to day with anglers reporting a good bite one day and almost nothing the next day. Plastics like Shrimpos, Ratso, Bro's Bloodworms, J&S, and Freedom Baitz are all working well. Minnows on Dead Stick or Tip-Downs are also taking fish. Pink/White, Black, and Chartreuse are the most popular sellers at Ross's Sport Shop this week.
Gill action has been good, Small tungsten jigs tipped with waxies or spikes are working well. Anglers are reporting gill action in 3 to 18 feet of water and around weed edges in the shallower water and wood and cribs in the deeper water.
Ice thickness are pushing at least 12 inches in almost all area waters and have topped the 20 inch mark already in some lakes. There is quite a bit of snow but minimal slush at this point on most waters and ATV and Snowmobile traffic is moving around good.
