MADISON, Wis. (DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES NEWS RELEASE) -- The Washburn County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Natural Resources are recommending no vehicle travel on area lakes due to poor ice conditions. In the last week three vehicles have broken through the ice while traveling on Nancy, Pokegama and Gilmore lakes. All occupants of those vehicles got out safely. Anyone venturing onto the ice this winter is urged to use extra caution. 12/30/13

Be sure to take advantage of the DNR's FREE FISHING weekend January 18th & 19th! No in-state or out of state license required! Fishing has slowed since December early January. But.... they are still biting! Lots of smaller Crappie & Bluegill with a nice one every now and then mostly using waxies, spikes and Crappie minnows. When those aren't working there has been some success with plankton like plastics produced by J & S Custom Jigs and Freedom Baitz (we have in stock). Also had reports of a few nice Walleye & Northern on tip-ups with large shiners & suckers. It's supposed to be another nice weekend, so come out and enjoy the Free Fishing Weekend!
