Motorized Trails Open on Park Falls and Great Divide Units Following Storm Event
WASHBURN, Wis. (June 20, 2018) – Motorized trails on the Park Falls and Great Divide units of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest are open once again.
Heavy rains last weekend caused the trails to be closed this week while Forest Service crews assessed them for damages and removed downed trees.
“We were very fortunate that trails on the Great Divide and Park Falls units escaped with very minor damages,” said Mike Martin, District Ranger for the Great Divide Ranger District. “We appreciate the public’s patience as we conducted assessments to ensure they were safe for riding.”
A closure order remains in effect for all motorized trails and a portion of roads on the Washburn Ranger District. The closure order and associated map can be found at www.fs.usda.gov/CNNF by clicking on Flood Updates.
If you are driving in the impacted area, please use caution and reduce your speed. Forest Service personnel have started to make emergency repairs to roads using heavy equipment and appreciate your vigilance.
