Turtle Flambeau Fishing Report 11-5-2012

By Jerry “Jerkbait” Hartigan

wisconsin musky fishingThe last 3 days I have been musky fishing on the Flowage.  Thursday was an overcast day with a light rain and snow mix and light wind.  We thought it would be perfect conditions for musky fishing but we only ended up with one northern that hit a sucker.

Friday I went out with the same people and hoped things would be better.  The water in my motor was frozen so the first spot we fished was an island near the boat launch so I could let my motor warm up a little.  As we drifted down the shore the sucker started to dance and we all watched as the bobber made a quick jerk and slowly sunk. My client moved to the back of the boat and set the hook into a fat 40 inch fish.

The next spot we tried was another deep shoreline and as we started to get into position my trolling motor prop fell off.  After taking apart my broken bow mount I was able to put that blade on my transom mount and continue to fish.  That is the third trolling motor I have broken this year.

We had a big fish hit a weighted Suick in deep water at the start of the drift and lost a musky in the low-forties class at the end of the drift that hit a weighted Burt near a deep shoreline.  The next 3 hours we had nothing happen until we were at the last spot at the very end of the drift when an eagle flew into the top of a tree to watch us. My client, Doug Knutson, said "This couldn't be a more perfect end to the day".

I said it would only be better if we had a musky on.  At that moment his partner raised his rod up and said "there's a fish".  A few minutes later we had another low 40 inch fish in the boat.  Today we only had 2 follows in a half day.  One was a small fish that hit a big Manta twice, and the other musky was in the mid-forties that just touched a Jake.  We will see what the rest of the week brings.
