Richland County Fishing Report July 9, 2013
By Wayne Morgenthaler
The streams and lakes are back to normal levels. Fishing is average now but the mosquito population is above average. I would strongly advise wearing netting if fishing for trout at this time. The backwaters along Lone Rock are above level with a strong growth of a variety of weeds. You need to look for small openings in the weeds to catch panfish. Weedless top water lures work good for bass and northern pike right now. Best time of the day is to fish early mornings. If you are going to keep fish, I would suggest you have plenty of ice along to keep them cold and fresh. Canoeing and kayaking remain excellent and the Pine River provides beautiful scenery.
A good place to get information for outdoor activities for Richland County is to stop in at the Visitor Center located in Richland Center at the railroad station which is currently open from 8 to 4, Monday through Friday. They have some outstanding maps to help you navigate. They can also line you up with local guides. They are located on Hwy 14 in the middle of town and just look for the railroad car and station. There is a stop light at the intersection that you will need to turn on. You can call 608-647-6205 or email chamber@richlandalliance.com
