Rice Lake Fishing Report 7-30-12
By Frank Zumpf
Well, it’s been warm enough to go fishing this week. Now is the time I think about how nice it was ice fishing. Of course, when I was out on the ice I was thinking how nice open water would be.
The bass fishing has been good, with the largemouth in the lily pads or deep holes in the weeds.
One thing that seems to be slow is the northern bite. This has been slow for me and has been reported slow by several other regular anglers. The muskies have been active but it seems that not many people have been after them. Those who are out there could have a great experience trying to land an angry 4-foot fish.
The panfish continue to bite well. Whether you keep them or not, it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon. The action is so abundant that it’s a good time to try different methods. Who knows—you might come up with a new favorite technique.
I’m on the water a lot and thought I’d seen everything, but I did a double-take this week. I had a Labrador retriever go by me on a wakeboard. I’m sure you can see this on You-Tube or TV, but when you are on the lake you don’t expect it. I have to admit it cracked me up. So go fishing—you never know what you’ll see.
