Rice Lake Fishing Report 12-3-12

Rice Lake Wisconsin

Not much for ice yet.  There were reports of some fishermen out on Turtle Lake and Prairie Lake.  They are jumping the gun.  I’m as anxious as anyone to get out there ice fishing, but this week’s warm weather and rain haven’t helped the ice form and safety is a real concern.

It’s best to hold off and get your equipment ready.  If that’s done, visit the local sporting goods stores and check out what’s new.  I usually wind up picking up some new ice jigs.  All the bright colors seem to catch my eye.  Hopefully they’ll attract the fish too.

For rods I like the noodle rods with lots of action for panfish.  With these I don’t need a spring bobber.  For walleyes and northerns I go with a stiffer rod.  I have been using several Okuma FS10 ice reels.  They are inexpensive and hold up quite well.  All we need now is safe ice.
