RICE LAKE FISHING REPORT 11-5-12

By Frank Zumpf –Local Outdoorsman

Don’t give up—there’s still good fishing in November.  The diehards are having the lakes to themselves.  Most of the docks are pulled from the boat ramps, so just launch with a longer rope and pull your boat back to shore.

Musky fishermen have been having good luck.  The savvy ones are using 14-16 inch suckers that they either bought or caught when they were more available.

The crappies and bluegills are back in the shallows at 6-8 feet.  They have been biting on minnow imitations and live bait.  Work a 1/32 jig as you drift the shallows.  Just lift the rod tip up and then give it some slack.

Walleye fishermen are having success with 4-5 inch suckers on a slip bobber.  There will be a good chance to catch a big fish between now and first ice.  The big females are cruising the dead weeds eating this year’s minnow crop.

This phenomenon is happening all over.  When I was in South Dakota last week a 10-year-old girl caught a 33-inch walleye that was 13 lbs. 4 ounces.  I know fishing out of a boat with snow coming down doesn’t do it for everyone, but give it a try.
