Rice Lake Fishing Report 6/4/13

Rice Lake Logo

Rice Lake FishingThe crappies right now are all the rage. They are in the shallows and biting. Find the cover the crappies like to spawn in and you will have fun catching right now. Throwing bobbers rigged with a small jig head and crappie minnow are sure to entice just about any spawner into biting. If you prefer the plastics, they are biting on those as well. Find a color combination they can't resist and your in for some non stop action. It's always a good idea to select harvest these fish and let the big females go.

The walleyes have been tougher this past week. They are in transition areas from hard to soft bottom, and this is a harder time to get them to bite. With some warmer weather, these fish will start to move into their summer haunts and will be feeding heavy again. A jig tipped with live bait fishing vertically over them is getting bites, but they are not over aggressive. Concentrate on deep drop offs, and they fish are being found in 30-40 feet depending on the lake. Some fish have been holding on the breaks in 18-22, and are holding on the wind driven side. Slip bobbers or dragging a lindy rig are the go to tactic to target them.

Good luck fishing, and remember, introduce someone new to the outdoors. They will appreciate it for a lifetime.
