Richland County Fishing Report 2-7-2013

Fishing was good again on the backwaters but you’re still looking for more fish very late in the day. The best bite is still the last hour before darkness. The snow on top has not changed the pattern when the fish are hungry.
Sunfish have been around 6 to 8 inches and the crappies around 10 inches. The crappies have been a very light bite on pink jigs tipped with wax worms. As soon as you feel any resistance, give a sharp tug. Bluegills on the other hand have been very aggressive on size 10 white and green jigs.

Most of the backwater roads between Lone Rock and Boscobel to these lakes, you will need 4 wheel drive as only a couple of them are plowed. The Avoca Fisheree is this Sunday, February 10th. I think this is their 33rd annual event put on by the firemen; a great day to have fun and meet people from around the area.
We have had a good amount snow lately and have seen the snowmobiles back out on the trails. There are some great trails in the area with plenty of lodging. A good place to get information for outdoor activities for Richland County is to stop in at the Visitor Center located in Richland Center at the railroad station, which is currently open from 8 to 4, Monday through Friday. They have some outstanding maps to help you navigate. They can also line you up with local guides. They are located on Hwy 14 in the middle of town and just look for the railroad car and station.
