Price County Fishing Report 4-22-2013
Wow, we're going into the end of April and I have to do an Ice fishing report.
Most lakes still have 15 to 20 inches of ice in most places and the Crappie are hitting good, Tip Downs or Deadsticks and Crappie minnows are doing well. For the fishermen that like to jig, small spoons or jigs with plastics are doing good. The Crappie are suspended higher in the water column and very aggressive. Good reports of Gill action as well from the guys that are fishing on the cribs. Use extra caution on the ice, The shorelines are wearing from the runoff and currents are cutting away at the ice from underneath.
River fishermen are reporting some catches of Redhorse and Suckers, Fast water and ice chunks are making the fishing a little challenging.
As far as opening weekend outlook, I still think there is a good chance that the Phillips Chain will have open water for May 4th, there is a lot of water moving thru it right now and it is eating away at the ice, Heavy snow in the forecast for tonight and warmer temps for later in the week should help get more water moving thru system and speed the melt. That being said there will be a lot of natural lakes and some of the larger bodies of water that will have hard water for the opener especially to the North and East of our area.
