NW Wisconsin Fishing Report June 6, 2013
By, Dave Hraychuck
The last week or so rain suits have been as important as bait, rods, and reels! Cool weather and lots of rain have made fishing difficult here in northwestern Wisconsin but not impossible. On the days when the sun does come out, look out! Walleyes are off the new weed edges. Jigs and leeches or slip bobbers and leeches seem to work best.
In Burnett County, Mike Remund from Wild Bill’s Sports and Spirits, in Webster, reports good walleye and crappie fishing on both Yellow Lake and Clam Lake. Wild Bills is open daily …5 a.m. to 9 p.m… with up-to-date information and lively bait. Don’t forget the Burnett County Bass Initiative allows anglers to keep 5 fish with no size limit in an effort to thin the bass population (check the state regulation book).
Polk County has numerous trout lakes throughout the county. Fishing spinners during the day and fly fishing in calm weather are producing some nice trout with several fish over 18”. For largemouth bass, plastics and spinner baits work best, and then towards evening switch to surface baits.
