Northwestern Wisconsin Fishing Report
By, Dave Hraychuck
Over the last two weeks of fishing here in northwestern Wisconsin, we have experienced weather variations from 90 degrees with high humidity to 45 degrees and low humidity. The one constant factor has been the wind. Learning to work the wind has been as important to a successful catch as locating the right fishing depth.
The post-spawn walleyes have been off the deep edges of the weeds. The northerns have been on the deep edges also, but when the weather stays constant, they have been feeding in as little as two feet of water. The crappies have been in shallow water on warm days and deep (12-14 feet) water on the cooler days or when weather fronts are moving in. As always, the bluegills have been predictable, feeding in 5-6 feet of water.
Walleyes have been hitting Lindy rigs and jigs tipped with leeches. Panfish are hitting well on all baits, crawlers, worms, waxies, and crappie minnows. Northerns and bass have been hitting on a variety of artificials, Rapalas, Mepps, crank baits, and plastics.
