Dave's Minocqua Area Fishing Reports 9/30/12

By Professional Guide Dave Lang

Hi from the shores of Lake Minocqua.  After a week of cold, wet, and windy conditions the weather turned nice last Monday and has stayed nice.  Walleyes are in their fall pattern.  Depending on the lake you will find them relating to rock humps or deep holes. Lakes are beginning to turn; again it depends on the lake.  Most lakes have water temps around 57 degrees.

A good fishing day Good fishing in Minocqua
Norm Mc Dougle & Corey Schraw both from Wheaton Norm Mc Dougle Wheaton IL. with nice mixed bag caught on Minocqua area Lakes last week

Tuesday I started a 3 day schedule with the Norm McDougle group from Wheaton IL., we put a half dozen Walleyes in the boat then switched lakes completing the day catching Pike and Bass.  The guys were staying in a cabin in Phelps and wanted to learn a lake near the cabin. I had taken a day the week before and scouted the lake learning what I could because I had never been on the lake before. We boxed some nice Pike and caught a number of short Bass.

Thursday I fished with Frank Crigler and his friend Ron from Arlington Heights. Our goal was Walleyes. We fished two lakes ending up with 12 nice Walleyes.

Friday found me back with McDougal. We caught our 6 Walleye limit in a couple of hours releasing a few fish that were in the slot; largest of the keepers was a 19 incher. Then finished up the day adding some Pike and one big Smallmouth to our box.

Great Fall Fishing A nice cool fall day fishing Wonderful fall fishing

The Walleyes that we caught were all caught on jig and minnow combinations.  For Walleyes I am using large fat head minnows.  These fish are hitting very lightly so it is important to keep your line as vertical as possible.  Pike and Bass continue to be caught on large chubs on a weedless jig in 6 - 10 feet of water.  Next weekend will find me on Lake of the Woods in search of Muskies with my sons.  Then I will be back in Minocqua fishing Muskies the next weekend.

That’s all for now folks good luck fishin and remember keep your line tight and a bend in your rod.
