Minocqua Area Ice Watch 2013
Conditions for this weekend have NOT improved. Ice has melted down and out, but not enough to launch boats and in some cases, too far to get on the ice.
I checked the Willow Flowage (4/30). The road to Cedar Falls Campground is closed (don’t know why). At the dam, ice out from shore 3-10’, but ice as far as you can see.
Ice conditions are deteriorating and that’s good. I don’t profess to understand more than a little bit of how the ice goes out, but as the ice decreases in mass, due to a multiplier type effect, it will melt at a quicker rate (less ice overall means a faster melt rate). Unfortunately, the warm weather has left us (chance of snow Thursday), so not sure if ice will continue to melt.
Minocqua Lake lost 3’ of shoreline ice in places yesterday, north and east accesses all but done. Big Arbs south end still good. Ice pulling out further on the Rainbow Flowage.
