Lake Geneva Fishing report 7/22/13 through 7/29/13

Even with the oppressive heat and humidity, fishing remains very good.  The best bite on the lake is deep water smallmouth or walleye bite at night.

Largemouth Bass are on the deep weedline.  The best weedlines are the ones with hard rock or hard sand scattered with the weeds.  The best location is by Trinkes or in Williams Bay.  Most of the fish are being caught using drop shot rigs or dragging Carolina rigs.  When fishing drop shot rigs, you want to use a small green pumpkin Houdini worm.  For Carolina rigging, you want a ¾ oz sinker and a 6 inch Zoom lizard also in green pumpkin.

Smallmouth Bass have moved to their deep mid- summer locations.  They are schooled up by the Military Academy and by Conference Point.  The best location is 22-25 ft of water, right on the drop offs.  They can be easily caught on lindy rigged nightcrawlers or lindy rigged yellow perch.  The yellow perch need to be caught in the lake.

Bluegill action has been fabulous.  The best fishing has been in 20-25 ft of water.  Look for the fish by Elgin Club and the east side of Williams Bay.  The best approach is straight lining a leaf worm beneath the boat.

Walleye fishing has been excellent at night, the best hours are midnight to 4 a.m.  Some catches are almost double digits.  You want to troll crawler harnesses or crank baits on the outside of the weed flats.  Look for the fish near Trinkes or in Williams Bay in 15-18 ft of water.  The best bait are large Rapalas in the chrome/blue or black/gold patterns.

Lake Trout fishing remains excellent in the early morning hours in the main lake basin.  Dodgers and Flies or chrome/blue spoons are all working equally well.  During the early morning hours, the fish are suspended off bottom about 70-80 ft down.

Northern Pike are in their mid summer pattern.  They are on the thermocline in 33 ft of water.  The best approach is a lindy rigged medium sucker.  Look for the fish by the boat launch in Fontana or just west of Cedar Point.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
