Warden extends all-volunteer guard shifts into May, volunteers needed
Warden Supervisor April Dombrowski of Oshkosh says the weekend’s warmer temperatures have heated the water to nearly ideal spawning conditions for the sturgeon to start later today or tomorrow on the Wolf River.
Dombrowski says the Sturgeon Guard assignments will start tomorrow, Tuesday (April 30) with the 7 a.m. shift. If you are assigned to an April 30 shift, please report to Fish Camp.
”At the start of your shift, we will provide you a hot meal and a briefing for your detail,” Dombrowski says. “We may not know where you will be assigned until that start of your assignment as this is dictated by the current spawning activity.”
Warden Dombrowski says if you would like to reschedule a previously cancelled shift, please contact her by email -- DNRSturgeonGuard@wisconsin.gov – and she will attempt a change.
Warden Dombrowski also has extended Sturgeon Guard shifts through May 13, and these new shifts need volunteers.
”Volunteers especially are needed for shifts later in the day and evening,” she says of the newly created shifts.
It’s simple to register for a shift. You can call the DNR Call Center – 888-936-7463. That’s a toll free number. Or, go to this website to sign up online, use a form or the email for the Sturgeon Guard coordinator:
