Kewaunee/Door County Salmon Tournament

Day 6 Results — Thursday, July 25, 2013

Despite some very rough water, 45 more 20-pound-plus chinooks were brought to the scale Thursday. The running total of “20s” now stands at 277 with three days to go.

The largest fish of the day moved into third place, a 29.17-pounder caught by Troy VanderHeiden of Little Chute late Wednesday. He said the big “king” hit a Howie fly behind a flasher about 45 feet down in 70 feet of water near Rock Island at dusk Wednesday.

The northern Door weigh-in site, 57 Depot at Baileys Harbor, had another big day with 17 chinooks ranging from 20.27 and 27.17.

Algoma had eight over 20, Sturgeon Bay seven and the Island three.

Entry fee is $25 for the final weekend, or $13 for a one-day shot. Tickets are available at the Kewaunee Marina, Algoma BP, Howie’s Tackle, 57 Depot, Kap’s Marina, Greystone Castle and Lakeshore Lighthouse.

Thursday’s port prize winners

Sturgeon Bay: Roger Beilke, 26.80
Algoma: Jamie Loritz, 22.64
Kewaunee: Eugene Bertrang, 27.62
