Delavan Lake fishing reports 7/1/13 through 7/8/13

As of Saturday 6/29,  Delavan Lake remains under a slow/no wake order  in effect due to the excessive rain.  Walworth county received about 11 inches of rain in 2 days.  I was able to fish a bit this week dodging the rain drops.  The success was limited.  The water clarity is poor and there is a lot of floating debris in the lake.  With that being said, we were still able to have a couple good trips.

Bluegill fishing remains excellent in the 12-15 ft depth range.  Look for the fish west of willow point or by 3 flags.  The best approach is casting a small split shot with a leaf worm to the weed line.  The action is an all day affair, with the best bite coming before 9 a.m.

Largemouth bass have been mediocre.  I’ve been finding fish, but only in a few small areas.  The fish are associating with rock on main lake points.  Most of the action has been either drop shotting small plastic worms or the split shot rigged nightcrawler.  The best locations have been west of Willow Point or by Browns Channel.

Walleye fishing has been slow.  I caught a few last week but they were small.  I caught the fish on lindy rigged nightcrawlers.  I think you’d have better luck if you were using jumbo leeches.  The best depth is 20-24 ft of water.  Look for the fish by Browns Channel, the Oriental Boat house or by the Village Supper Club.  You want to fish for the walleyes at first light or at dusk.  The problem with fishing at dusk is the mosquitos.

Perch fishing has been very good.  I’ve been catching them by the channel by Lake Lawn Lodge golf course.  The best depth is 6-9 ft. of water.  The best approach is using Thill Slip bobbers with hellgrammites or small leaf worms.  A lot of the fish last week were 10-11 inches.

Northern Pike have been spotty.  It still remains that the bigger the bait the more action you will see.  The fish I’ve been catching are on the weedline in 16-17 ft. of water.  The gray condos or Browns Channel have been producing most of the action.  I’ve been catching all of my fish on Lindy rigs.  The slip bobber method has not been effective for me.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
