The recent heat wave that has hit the Midwest has sent the water temps into the low to mid 80 degree range creating a feeding bonanza from bass and panfish, but putting a halt to our musky fishing for now.  With the water temperatures being dangerously high for larger species of fish like muskies our guides at Hooksetters have put our musky rods away for now, and we will wait until the water temperatures go down before we begin to target them again. With high water temps big fish just can't take the stress of being caught. The trauma that a lot of muskies incur while battling an angler in this type of warm weather will likely kill the fish. Even if it is a quick battle and you have a good immediate release a lot of those fish will not make it. With that said we are having great action from other species like walleyes, bass and panfish.  A lot of the action is in deeper water associated with current and structure. We are targeting  most species in submerged timber along the main river channel with weedless jigs from Rick Jaroch of Baitmaker Tackle. Tip the jigs with a piece of crawler for walleyes and gills and run minnows for the crappies.  It is a simple technique that has been putting a lot of fish in the boat for us during the warm summer months for many years.
