Can Cooker
By Dave Hraychuck
It’s a no brainer!
Easy to cook, easy to clean, great tasting food, and it belongs with your hunting and fishing equipment. After a long day of hunting or fishing, the answer to making an abundant, healthy, quick and easy one-pot dinner is the CanCooker!
Two generations ago, Seth McGinn participated in a cattle roundup in eastern Nebraska. Everyone who participated brought some food for lunch. All of the food was put in a cream can set over an open fire and cooked all morning. At lunch everyone ate their fill of a variety of healthy steamed meats and vegetables and the CanCooker was born!
CanCooker allows you to spend more time socializing, hunting, or fishing instead of preparing and cooking your main meal. CanCooker cooks your meal in about an hour, and clean-up is just one pot. For over six years I have been using the CanCooker on hunting trips, ice fishing trips, camping and family gatherings. It also puts a different twist on a shore lunch while I’m guiding.
CanCookers work by using steam cooking and arranging the food in the cooker with the longest cooking-time items on the bottom of the can and the items that require less time near the top. It would be easier to list the kinds of vegetables and meat that can’t go in a CanCooker.
Hundreds of satisfied customers have sent recipes to CanCooker.com. Here are a couple of my favorties:
Sonja’s Shrimp and Sausage Supper
2 pounds new potatoes, quartered
1-2 onions, quartered
12 half ears of corn, placed on end
2 lemons cut in half
1-2 pounds of large, fresh unpeeled shrimp
1 package of kielbasa sausage, whole
4-3 oz. packages of shrimp or crab seasoning
CanCooker All Purpose seasoning
1 stick of butter
12-24 oz. liquid (water or beer)
First, place ears of corn in the CanCooker standing on end. Add potatoes, onions, and lemons. Place kielbasa on top of vegetables. Add shrimp or crab boil seasoning, All Purpose seasoning, butter, and water or beer. Latch the lid and place on heat source. Once the cooker begins to vent steam, keep on heat source for approximately 25-30 minutes.
CAREFULLY open lid and add shrimp. COOKER AND CONTENTS WILL BE HOT. USE OVEN MITTS. Re-latch lid and cook for an additional 5- 10 minutes. Remove from heat source and let stand for a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes. Place food into large serving tray and enjoy.
Pork Tenderloin Family Favorite
1 small pork tenderloin
8-10 ears of corn on the cob, cut in half
2-3 pounds new potatoes cut in half
2 onions, quartered
1 bag of baby carrots
1 stick of butter (optional)
1 bottle of Italian dressing
12-24 oz. liquid (water or beer)
CanCooker Original Creole Seasoning
You can add fresh shrimp and kielbasa if you like!
