Ashland Area Fishing Report 12-21-12

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754,  http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com reports:

Well it's now happening!!! Ice fishing has now begun on Chequamegon Bay! The ice has been forming on the Ashland side of the Bay near the shallows. There have been anglers out at Second Landing (East off of US Hwy 2) and out by Bay View Park (across from Shopko). Reports are saying Perch, Northerns and even Walleyes are biting. At this time we have anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of ice on the bay. Roger says you need to bring your ice bar (spud) and check your way out on the ice. Also, wear ice cleats! Checking the ice is extremely important! There are high winds today (December 20th) so anglers need to be aware of the weather surrounding them and fish safely.

The Ashland Chamber, 800-284-9484, www.visitashland.com wishes all anglers a great ice fishing season.

Upcoming winter events include:

January 12th, Northwoods Harness Club, Sleigh & Cutter Rally at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center.

February 9th, King of the Bay Snow Drags near Maslowski Beach in Ashland.

February 16th, Book Across the Bay XC Ski Race and Snow Shoe Trek across Chequamegon Bay Ice from Ashland to Washburn.
