Ashland Area Fishing Report 8-16-2013

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754, http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com Reports:

The fishing continues to be good on both the big blue Lake Superior and the Inland Lakes. Bass fishing on the big lake has been great on sucker minnows. Trolling for Trout and Salmon has been good in the Shallows and Deep Water and all the way out to Outer Island. Most Anglers are using stickbaits, spoons, bait flies and spin-n-glows. Fish have been caught in 20 feet of water to 150 feet of water depending on water temps that given day. There has been Northern activity along the Ashland Shoreline. Anglers are having good luck on the Inlands with Bass, Northern and Pan Fish all biting. The Bass and Pan Fish are very active right now. Anglers are having good luck fishing for Smallies in the deeper water near the tip of Long Island, the Rock Pile and the back of the Breakwall. These seem to be reported as the three hot spots! Inland Fishing has been good with a lot of fish in 10 to 15 feet of water and deeper…You might have good luck in shady areas and around docks on the shoreline. Roger says, “work the weeds, if there are holes in the cabbage weeds, drop your line and you likely catch fish”.

Fishing Guide Nate Baron from River Rock Inn and Bait Shop, 715-682-3232 http://riverrockinn.net Reports: ~ The Lake Trout fishing on Lake Superior this past week has been exceptional. Near shore trolling in the Islands and on the flats in 100-150 FOW has been very productive. A high number of Charters and anglers have been coming in with their limits. Trolling with Spoons, Flasher/Spin-Glows & Howie flies with downriggers has been the most productive. Locating large pods of baitfish is the key to your success right now. Anglers are doing really well off of Saxon Harbor in 40-60 FOW with downriggers for Lakers. Trolling sub-surface Stickbaits with planer boards and dipsy divers is also picking up a fair amount of Cohos & King Salmon. The fishing should remain good in the Harbor as long as the baitfish are there. Smallmouth Bass fishing has been good on Chequamegon Bay this past week. Fishing the deeper weedbeds in 14-18 FOW with Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits and live sucker rigs has been the most productive. Working the deeper weedbeds with Musky size Bucktails and Spinnerbaits has also been producing some large Northern Pike. Musky activity on the area's Inland Lakes has been very good. Burning Bucktails on the top and surface baits near dawn and dusk has been most productive. Work the deeper weed edges with Bucktails and Jerkbaits during mid day hours. Good luck fishing and tight lines to all!
