Ashland Area Fishing Report 7-15-2013

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754, http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com Reports:

Roger at Anglers All Reports: The Big Lake continues to be good. Bass fishing has been great on flies. A lot of good fishing has been done at Sand Cut, Oak Point and Brush Point areas. Trolling for Trout and Salmon has been excellent in the shallows and deep water. Start early in the morning on the first drops then work to deeper water as the sun gets higher in the sky.

Most anglers are using stickbaits, spoons, bait flies and spin-n-glows. There has been a good deal of Northern activity along the Ashland Shoreline. Anglers are having good luck on the Inlands with Bass, Northern and Pan Fish all biting. The Bass and Pan Fish are in the shallows and are very, very active. Fishing on the big rivers has been awesome! They are catching Smallmouth and Muskies…The Hex Hatch has been happening on the local rivers and streams causing the Trout to bite!

Fishing Guide Nate Baron from River Rock Inn and Bait Shop, 715-682-3232 http://riverrockinn.net Reports:

Fishing pressure on the Bay out from Ashland this past week has been low due to recent rainfalls. The head of the Bay is muddy again which extends east to the lighthouse. Most fishermen have been concentrating their efforts on the east end of the Bay. Trolling crankbaits and crawler harnesses over the top of deep weedbeds has been productive this past week off of Second Landing. Weedbeds are coming up ten or twelve feet in 18 FOW which makes keeping lines clean a little more difficult.

Smallmouth fishing has been good off of Oak Point and Long Island with a lot of fisherman starting to focus on the deeper weedbeds. Smallmouths can still be taken off the shallow reed beds casting spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Sandcut area is still holding some good Smallmouth fishing also.
Crappie fishing has been good on Lake Nemakagon over the weedbeds in deep water with 1/16 oz jigs and white twister tails.

Good reports are coming in on Lake Trout fishing in the Islands. Near shore is still producing some good fishing trolling stickbaits on planer boards. The Outer Island area and the outlying reefs are producing some large Lake Trout on downriggers with flashers and Spin-glows or Howie Flies in 150-200 FOW. The fish have been large out there and has been difficult finding them under the 25" mark. The flats has been also producing a good number of fish.

Good luck fishing and tight lines to all!
