Winnebago System Sturgeon spawning run update
Winnebago System Sturgeon Enthusiasts:
Well my forecast on Saturday was pretty accurate. Our crew was able to collect 13 fish from the upper Fox River (8 at Princeton and 5 at Berlin) yesterday. This may not be a large number of fish, but that is a good day for the upper Fox River, particularly given that we surgically implanted 10-year sonic transmitters into 12 of those fish. The spawning run on the Wolf River has also commenced this morning and our crew is just getting started tagging fish at the Sturgeon Trail on County X in New London (photo attached). I have also heard reports of spawning activity on the upper Fox River in Princeton and on the Little Wolf River in Manawa. I anticipate that other spawning sites will start to see some activity today and that the bulk of the run will occur from this afternoon through the rest of this week. The water temperatures are pretty high, meaning that the fish will likely spawn out quickly at some of these sites. I anticipate there will be fish in the New London today and tomorrow and then in Shiocton as early as later today but for sure tomorrow. Shawano likely will be later this week. So I suggest taking advantage of the weather and getting out to see the fish spawn in the next few days.
We are committed to service excellence.
