Washburn County Fishing & Outdoor Report
Looking at the forecast for this week, we can expect a sunny and dry week. Temperatures during the day will be in the high 50’s, but by the weekend, we will see daytime temperatures in the 70’s. The colors have reached their full peak, and with this week’s sunny forecast, now is an excellent time to get out and enjoy the weather!
According to the Wisconsin DNR, “fall colors are spreading across the state and many areas are already near or at peak. Tamaracks are starting to show yellow; tree canopies and brush continue to thin. Also, keep your eyes peeled as you drive, the deer are also becoming more mobile as the rut approaches and temperatures continue to drop.”
John at Sportsman’s Headquarters said the Muskie fishing has been excellent on several area lakes, with anglers buying more big Muskie suckers. When it comes to small game hunting this season, the grouse hunting has been very spotty.
“Muskie fishing around Washburn County is very good right now,” says local fishing guide Jim Stroede, “we're at the peak of the fall colors and have some great fishing to go along with it! Muskies are hitting jerk baits and big minnow baits as we've worked them along drop-offs near deep water. A good number of our fish are coming on quick strike rigged suckers as well. The fishing should only get better as the weather gets cooler.”
Barb of AAA Sports reports, “Most of our anglers are getting live bait for their bait of choice; anything from crappie minnows to Muskie suckers. It was quite a variety of fisherman this past weekend. We're on the last of the leeches. We sold a lot of Muskie suckers for the guys heading to Hayward lakes area. Water temps are going down. As for hunting, we have guys in grouse hunting this week. There are more guys heading to the woods for bow hunting now that the leaves are falling and it's cooling off.”
