It's Almost Time!

The Winnebago System lake sturgeon are getting ready to make their run up the Wolf River to the Shawano Dam. Sturgeon have been seen at Boom Cut waiting to make their way up the Wolf River.

Lake sturgeon spawn at about 53 degrees Fahrenheit. If high water levels are a factor this spring, spawning will likely be delayed. As of today, the water temperature is 51.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once the lake sturgeon begin making their spawning run up the Wolf River there are several locations where they can be seen up close, including:

If you do head out during the spawn, don’t forget to grab a pair of polarized sunglasses. This will help you see the lake sturgeon in the water.

Can’t make it out to see them in person? Check out the underwater cameras at Bamboo Bend at Shiocton and at the Shawano Dam.

Lake sturgeon can also be seen spawning on the lower Fox River in De Pere and lower Peshtigo River in Peshtigo.
