Richland County Fishing Report—June 20, 2016

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The weather is finally settling down.  We had quite a bit of rain and made for some tough trout fishing.  I noticed the big three trout streams (Willow, Pine River, and Mill Creek) are all starting to clear up.  The small streams are excellent for some good wading upstream for those brook and brown trout.

The Wisconsin River is slowly starting to go back down with more islands showing up each day from Spring Green to Boscobel.  Catfish love this warm weather and stink bait seems to be working great.  The backwaters are at a good water level and just right for top water fishing for northern pike and largemouth bass.  My favorite so far this year is a scum frog and spinner baits.  The bluegills and crappies were hitting mini mites in pink and white.  Best fishing time is the last three hours before dark.  Bugs were not too bad yet, but be ready as you never know when that first good hatch will happen.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Looking for a great trip down the Pine River for fishing or just enjoying the scenery, try Pine River Paddle and Tube LLC.  They will provide drop off and pick up.  Just tell them how long you would like to be on the water.  Just Google them and you will find them in Facebook with some wonderful pictures.  I would give Mark McCauley a call at 608-475-2199 or 608-475-2178 for more information.  If you do like to fish on this trip for trout, I would suggest using a Panther Martin in green or gold colors.
