Richland County Fishing Report Oct 15, 2015

By Wayne Morgenthaler

Trout season is over and the stream water levels are very low.  The leaves are in full color and the hills and valleys are gorgeous at this time of year.  This is a great time to take photos and watch for migration of the birds as they head south.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Backwater fishing along the Wisconsin River from Spring Green to Boscobel has been good.  The main bite still remains evenings with the last 2 hours before sunset being the best.  The bigger pan fish seem to be on a better feeding binge.  I caught 4 crappies between 11 and 12 inches, 3 perch about 10 to 11 inches, and 5 nice size bluegills between 8 and 9 inches.  All fish were taken on pink and white plastic jigs.  You need to work them slow on the weed lines and openings in the lily pads.  Don’t forget to take in to consideration that there might be duck hunters in your area.  We made them happy as we kicked up 3 different groups of wood ducks as we canoed in to our fishing area.  They got in some good shooting for about 45 minutes.  As the temperatures get colder the pan fish will slow down but the northern pike and big bass should pick up.  Enjoy the beautiful fall as much as you can.

A great place to stop for all your sporting needs is Norm’s Small Engines & Sports.  He is located at 900 Hwy 14 West, Richland Center.  The business is right across from the Mobile gas station.  Norms has all types of fishing supplies you need plus if you are in to hunting he offers a nice selection.  You can also check out his turkey contests and wall of photos from his fishing and hunting experiences.
