Rice Lake Fishing Report
The trees are starting to turn colors around the area, the water temperatures are dropping, and the fish are really starting to put on the feed bags for the fall.
The walleyes are really going strong right now. The fish have shifted from all being on soft bottom chasing perch, to sitting right on the hard to soft bottom transition, or just sitting on the hard bottom such as rocks. Key areas to target are points that extend off of structures, or underwater bars and hit the areas with the sharpest drop. Fish are being found in 21-27 feet right now unless you find lakes with a deeper thermocline. Some fish have come as deep as 31-33 on jigs tipped with minnows. Trolling cranks or spinners tipped with crawlers are producing fish also.
Bass are still holding on structure areas. Find sunken logs, cribs, or small patches of green weeds or small rock structures. Work the areas over well as they are being finicky on colors and style of bait. Fish have been biting short, and biting soft so be patient and work the baits slow.
Good luck fishing and remember, introduce someone new into the outdoors. They will appreciate it for a lifetime
