Price County Fishing Report

On Wisconsin Outdoors

If you have been outside lately you probably noticed the prolonged heat wave. As air temps continue to push the 90 degree mark water temps are also rising. Saturday I had surface water temps at 82.5 . Not only is that warm but it can really stress the muskies. The high water temps reduces the oxygen levels in that water column. Anglers hooking, fighting and landing a fish from this shallow water can REALLY stress these fish out. Releasing a fish even after resting it in a net for a while can still cause delay mortality. As an anglers it may be better to forgo fishing for a few days and let the extreme heat pass and water temps cool slightly before heading back out to some of your favorite spots. When water temps reach this level our fisheree becomes very delicate. Some anglers have reported seeing dead muskies floating and this can be a sign of the delay mortality associated with releasing stressed out fish.

The other concern for anglers is when we have this warm weather we also experience some high boat traffic. This is a great time to do a little night fishing. Besides the bugs you usually have the lake to yourself. Also the rivers provide some good action this time of year as muskies move to more predictable spots.

Good Luck Fishing
