Price County Fishing Report 8/12/14

Walleye seemed to be a little sluggish this week, My boat did catch them but we really had to work for them and downsize our lures even more then what I usually do. The Crawler bite is almost equal with leeches. Bluegill action is still strong, They have moved up a little more shallow to weed edges and fallen timber, almost like a post spawn pattern. We have been using a simple bobber and wire hook with worms, crawlers or small leeches for bait.

Crappie have been doing well, we are finding them scattered from 10 feet of water to 20 plus feet of water and catching them on plastics. Customers are reporting a good minnow bite as well.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Musky action has been good for this time of year, We have been putting a fair amount of August Musky in the Ross's Sport Shop Guide Service boats, Active fish are scattered and I have been using lures that cover a lot of water, fast moving surface baits like Lake X Lures Cannonball Jr's and Double 10 bucktails like Esox Assaults EA-10's cover a ton of water in no time at all.

A few days ago I had the pleasure to fish with Mike Trunk and Adam Carter, Adam informed me that Mike had been fishing for Musky for over 45 years and in some of the premier musky waters of Canada, Minnesota and Wisconsin but still had never caught a Musky of any size. So the goal was to get Mike a Musky, We were on the water for about 3 hours and Adam had all kinds of action but Mike had nothing yet, we pulled up to our last spot on the lake before we pulled the boat to try other waters, Mike made about a dozen casts there and his St Croix Long Ranger loaded up. I will always remember Mike yelling FISH!!!. After a good fight we had Mikes first ever Musky in the net. We snapped a few pictures and bumped it on the bump board at 34 inches and returned the fish to the water. As it swam away Mike said go be someone else's first one! Pictured is Mike with his Trophy that Released.
