Northern pike stocking from Wild Rose hatchery wraps up
Today, Wisconsin DNR Wild Rose Fish Hatchery finished stocking large fingerling Northern Pike for 2013. A total of 55 lakes across the state received a total of 48,916 Pike fingerlings from Wild Rose in the last 9 weeks. That is on top of the 110,000 small fingerlings stocked from Wild Rose in June. Stocking this fall took longer than in past years, due in part to the warm fall weather and the large number of other fish (Walleye, trout, etc.) the distribution crews had to stock. The fish stocked today were some of the largest ever produced at Wild Rose, averaging over 10 inches long and weighing 3.3 ounces each. Of the fish that were stocked today, Big Muskego Lake in Waukesha got the lion’s share of fish, 10,717 fish weighing 1977 pounds (23 pounds short of one ton). In a few years Pike fishing there should be great.
