Learn to fly fish workshop offered at the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest

EAGLE, Wis. – Anyone interested in learning the intricate sport of fly fishing can sign up for a “Learn how to fly fish” workshop being offeredSaturday, May 17, in the clear blue waters at Paradise Springs in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest.

Fly fishing is an angling method in which an artificial "fly" is used to catch fish. The fly is cast using a specialized fly rod, reel and weighted line. Casting a nearly weightless fly or "lure" requires casting techniques significantly different from other forms of casting. Fly fishers use hand tied flies that resemble natural invertebrates or other food organisms, or "lures" to provoke the fish to strike.

Angler Education Instructor Bill Pepito will teach participants everything they need to know. Poles and gear will be provided.

Paradise Springs is located just east of Eagle on County Highway N just north of Highway 59. The historic spring pond maintains a temperature of about 47 degrees year-round. The springs are stocked with native brook trout.

Class size is limited to 10 participants; all ages welcome.

People can call 262-594-6200 to register or stop in at the office to RSVP.

A fishing license plus an inland trout stamp is required for this event. Children 15 and under do not need a license.

There are three easy ways to buy a license: over the Internet through the Online Licensing Center on the DNR website, at all authorized license agents, at DNR Service Centers (Hours for service centers vary; check the DNR website for service center days and hours of operation; DNR Service Centers are not open on Saturdays), or by calling toll-free 1-877-LICENSE (1-877-945-4236).

The closest place to Paradise Springs to obtain a license is at the Kettle Citgo in Eagle.

For more information contact the forest headquarters at 262-594-6200.
