Lake Geneva Fishing Report 5/4/14 through 5/11/13

Lake Geneva remains very cold.  The lake appears to be 2-3 weeks behind normal for Opening Day.  The good news is that they finally put in the boat docks.  The best bite is largemouth bass.  The smallmouth bass are suspended outside their spawning flats by Elgin Club and the Military Academy.  For the next few weeks, the best bait to bring is either white hair jigs or a minnow presentation.

For largemouth bass the best bite is in Abbey Harbor or in Trinkes.  Either a All Terrain Stik or a split shot rigged nightcrawler are producing most of the fish.  Concentrate on the motor outwash areas near the dock.  Abbey Harbor remains the warmest water in Lake Geneva.  Trinkes is also producing fish but the fishable area is substantially less.

Smallmouth bass fishing is slow.  The main lake temperature is still very cold and the fish are scattered in 15-20 ft of water chasing the minnow pods.  The best presentation is pink jig heads with white hair fish suspended half way down the water column.  The hair jig resembles the scattered bait fish within the lake.  Look for the fish near the spawning flats like Elgin Club, the Military Academy and Belvidere Park.

Perch fishing remains good.  The perch are in 8-10 ft of water.  Look for them by Knollwood or Belvidere Park.   Try using Thill slip bobbers and small minnows for the best success.

The best bluegill action is in Trinkes Harbor or Abbey Harbor.  The fish are in 3-4 ft of water.  Small ice jigs tipped with leaf worms or wax worms are producing most of the action.

Lake Trout are still being caught on the main lake points.  White tube jigs or small shiners are producing most of the action.  The best locations are by Black Point or Conference Point.  Work a depth of 8-10 ft.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050

Daily Reports

5/3/14 Whitewater Lake, partly sunny, 63 degrees, winds NW at 20 mph.  Water temp 50 degrees.  Tried for Walleyes and ended up catching 2 along with 4 largemouth bass.  We trolled crankbaits along the shoreline in 6-8 feet of water.  The best colored crankbait was perch colored, I used the Arkie crappie crankbait.  It was a bit slow and the wind played a factor with the presentation.  Best trolling speed was 2 mph.

5/4/14 Lake Geneva, sunny,  62 degrees, winds NE at 15 mph.  Water temp 50 degrees.  Caught 12 largemouth bass in Abbey Harbor.  The main lake remains very cold and the fish in the main lake are scattered.  It appears that most of Lake Geneva is about 2 weeks behind normal.  The bass were caught on a split shot rigged nightcrawler in 3-4 ft of water around the boat docks.
