Dave Duwe Delavan Lake Fishing Report 6/16/14 through 6/22/14
Happy Fathers Day! Fishing on Delavan continues to be very good. The fly hatch of last week has disappeared and the fishing has been improving every day. The largemouth bass and bluegills are post spawn and are migrating out to the weedlines.
This week, largemouth bass have been in two different locations one is the deep weedline in 12-15 ft of water and the other location has them cruising the shallows in 3-5 ft of water. With the shallow fish, I’ve been using either chrome and blue or fire tiger Rattle traps or green pumpkin Senkos. Look for the fish by the golf course or in the Highlands bay. For the deeper fish, I’ve been using split shot rigged nightcrawlers or a black and blue All Terrain jig. The best location for the deeper fish has been west of the Yacht Club or Browns Channel.
Walleyes are showing up regularly on the 12-15 ft weedline. They are being caught on Bait Rigs Weedmaster jigs in green and chartreuse or a split shot rigged nightcrawler or leech. Look for the fish by Browns Channel or by the Oriental boat house.
Bluegills have almost completed their spawn. The most aggressive fish are in the 10-12 ft depth range and they are located just west of Willow Point or just west of the Yacht Club. I’ve been using either a split shot rigged leaf worm or a Thilll slip bobber rig about 1 foot off bottom.
Smallmouth bass have been very spotty. I have been catching a couple here and there off the deep weedline near the Yacht Club or by the Village Supper Club. Most of the success has come off of a jig and leech or a ½ nightcrawler on a split shot rig.
Northern Pike fishing has been in kind of a transition period. The fish are moving from the shallow weed flats to the deep weedlines. I’ve been catching some fish out on the weedlines in 12-15 ft of water, however, with the cooler water the fish are still using the shallow water. For the pike fishing to improve, we need some warmer weather to push them down in the water column, making them accessible to a lindy rigged sucker.
Crappies have also completed their spawns, they have pulled out of the shallows and are positioned in 12-15 ft of water. The fish are by Willow Point or by Belvidere Park. The best approach is purple or pink plastics fished on a 1/32 oz jig. The fish have been suspended in the structure, so I cast out and fish them about 2-4 ft beneath the water surface.
Good luck and I hope to see you on the water. For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
