Delavan Lake 8/17/20 through 8/24/20

With the cooling waters, fishing has been improving daily.  The fish are starting to enter the fall pre-turnover pattern.

The Northern Pike fishing has slowed a bit with the weather.  You can still catch fish, however the large numbers aren’t as available.  With the temperature change, they are spreading out off the deep weed line to the shallow weeds and channels.  I’ve heard of good catches of large fish in View Crest and Gray Condos.  Water was about 5-6 feet deep.  I have still been working the deep weed line with suckers.  The water I was working was 18-24 feet.  The numbers are slightly lower than previous weeks, but you can almost guarantee a few fish.

Walleye fishing has been sporadic.  I have been getting fish on the weed line or just off the weed line.  The biggest fish I have been catching are in 25-30 feet of water.  Leeches seem to be the best, however it is getting hard to find good ones.  It is their spawning season and they are pretty soft.  In cooler water, the walleyes should start suspending, making them susceptible to the jerk bait.  (Smithwick suspending rogues or Rapala Husky jerk baits)  The best approach is the deeper water has been the lindy rig.  A small hook with ¼ oz. Walking weight with a 24-inch leader has been the most effective.  The Village, Yacht Club and Willow Point have been an almost sure thing.  Night fishing has been the most productive.

Bass fishing has been good overall.  The fish are moving off the docks to the weed lines.  They are positioned in between 15 and 18 feet of water.  I have been working night crawlers on a split shot rig.  I have been catching both small mouth and large mouth bass.  The average size has been about 15-18 inches, with some legal fish being caught.

Perch fishing continues to be productive.  There haven’t been many limits, however good numbers are being caught.  Helgramites on slip bobbers are the best method.

Bluegill fishing has been very good.  The fish are between 18 and 23 ft of water.  There are very good number.  Most of the fish are being caught on leaf worms fished beneath the boat or with a slip bobber.  There are many limits being caught.  The best location is by the gray condos or by Del Mar subdivision.

With fall approaching it is becoming trophy Northern Pike time.  For the biggest Pike of the year remember to book soon.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
