Delavan Lake 5/19/14 through 5/25/14

Delavan Lake continues to busy with fishermen.  With the 5 inches of rain this week and a lake fly hatch the fishing has slowed a bit and the numbers from last week have been reduced a little.  With the warm weather predicted for this weed it should ignite the bite.

Some walleyes are being caught off the main lake points in 26-28 ft of water.  First light and evening seem to be the best.  Lindy rigged fat head minnows are working well.

Largemouth bass are still in pre-spawn mode and continue  hitting chrome/blue and chrome/black rattle traps.  The  fish are by the Lake Lawn Golf course or Viewcrest Bay.  The water temperature about 55 degrees.  For live bait, use slip bobbered suckers for the most action.

Northern pike action is still good if you can find the weeds.  Most of the weeds are in Viewcrest or Highlands Bay.  You want to slip bobber large golden shiners or small suckers beneath a Thill slip bobber with a 1/0 hook.  Once you find the weeds you will find the fish.  Browns Channel is still missing the requisite weeds to be an ideal choice.

Crappie fishing has not picked up yet.  Most of the action has been in Lake Lawn Lodge marina.  The fishing pressure is still tremendous..  Most of the fish are coming on slip bobber rigged minnows in about 3 ft of water.  Lake Lawn still appears to be the only location for the crappies.

The best bluegill fishing is in the channels or in Lake Lawn Harbor.  They are still in the shallows about 2-3 ft of water.  Leaf worms or wax worms are still the bait of choice.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
