Delavan Lake 1st Annual Rough Fish Derby
June 10, 2014. Delavan, WI--Lakeside Bait & Tackle of Delavan will host its 1st annual Rough Fish Derby June 20th-22nd on Delavan Lake. Experienced fisherman, amateurs, and spectators alike can join in this unique carp fishing competition and community cookout.
The derby is far from the traditional “hook & line” fishing event. Participants may catch the rough fish using any legal means, including a spear or a bow & arrow [bowfishing]. During the three-day competition, people may fish by the shore, at the dock, on a boat, or a combination of the three. Fishers can choose to enter one of two categories, hook & line or bowfishing. Cash and prize payouts will be awarded for the amount of carp caught. Contestants may also enter the “Big Fish Payout” and compete to capture the largest carp fish.
The fishing derby will conclude with a community cookout of hotdogs and brats aside the beautiful Delavan Lake. The cookout is included for derby participants, and can also be enjoyed by spectators for $5.
The Rough Fish Derby is part of the Delavan Lake restoration effort to preserve the lake and waterways. Prior efforts have increased water clarity up to 26 feet, eliminated some carp, and preserved natural vegetation along the waterways. All carp caught will be disposed by Lakeside Bait & Tackle.
Register for the Rough Fish Derby at Lakeside Bait & Tackle before June 20th. The registration fee is $10 per person and includes competition entry and a cookout ticket. For an addition $5, participants may enter the “Big Fish Payout” and win a 100% payout. The derby will take place from 6pm Friday to 10am Sunday.
