Dave Duwe’s Lake Geneva Fishing Report 6/1/14 through 6/9/14
Thank Goodness summer has finally arrived. With the warm temperatures, the lake has been warming rapidly and has come up 10 degrees in the past week. The lake has gone from almost a complete minnow bite to a nightcrawler bite almost overnight.
Smallmouth bass are congregating in the 10-12 ft depth range on their spawning flats. The best location has been by Belvidere Park on the west end of the lake and by Elgin Club. The methods of choice are a split shot rigged nightcralwers and white hair jigs or a wacky rigged green pumpkin finesse worm. The fish aren’t that active so make sure you fish every presentation slow and methodical.
Rock bass fishing has been fantastic. The fish are in 8-12 ft of water. You want to use a white hair jig or a split shot rigged nightcrawler. Pretty much every place there is hard sand bottom you will find rock bass.
Largemouth bass have been biting in Trinkes Bay, Geneva Bay and Williams Bay around the boat docks. The best approach has been wacky rigging green pumpkin finesse worms or drop shotting sassy shads in black and pearl. The fish are probably about 2 weeks away from spawning.
Crappie fishing has been sporadic however if you find a school you can have good success. They’ve been hanging around docks in 6 ft of water. The best approach has been minnows fished underneath a Thill bobber. The best location has been by the north side of the narrows or by Geneva Inn.
Bluegill fishing has started to improve with the warming water. My best success has come by Trinkes or in Geneva Bay. Look for the fish in 6-8 ft of water. Leaf worms fished beneath a bobber have been producing most of the action.
Good luck and I hope to see you on the water. For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
