Dave Duwe’s Delavan Lake 6/2/14 through 6/9/14

The surface temperature is up 10 degrees since last week.  Fishing has been improving daily, the largemouth and bluegills are in the shallows starting to spawn.  Over the course of the next couple of week, we will see the best fishing Delavan has to offer.  For the most comfortable fishing, try going out Tuesday through Thursday for less stress at the boat launch.

Bluegills are in 4-6 ft of water.  Look for the spawning fish in the shallow sand flats, you can tell by the circular pattern in the sand.  The average size of the bluegills is about 7-8 inches.  The best approach is Thill slip bobbers fished with a small leaf worm.  The best locations are just west of Willow Point of by Browns Channel.  Remember that the fish are spawning so please do not over harvest.

Largemouth bass remain in the 3-5 ft depth range.  You can catch them on white spinner baits, green pumpkin Senkos or a split shot rigged nightcrawler.  The best locations are by Lake Lawn golf course, Viewcrest or Highland Bays.  Some fish are spawning in the main lake, and again you need to look for the sand bottom.

Walleye fishing has been a bit slow.  However, some fish are being caught at night.  The best approach is a plain jig with a leech.  Some action is also being had while trolling medium diving crankbaits.  I prefer 300 series bandits. The best location is on the point by Assembly point or the weedline just west of Willow Point.  Pearl colored crankbaits or chrome and blue have been producing most of the action.

The northern pike fishing has slowed slightly.  The fish have moved out of the 10 ft depth range and are now positioning on the weedline in 12-15 ft of water.  The best approach is lindy rigging medium suckers.  Keep the bait about 1 ft above bottom.  The best location has been by the In Between bar or Belvidere condos.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
