Dave Duwe Lake Geneva fishing report 6/22/14 through 6/30/14

The fish are starting to be in their summer patterns.  We are in the window where the largemouth bass are located on the major weed flats in Trinkes Bay and Williams Bay.  You can get large numbers of quality fish in a short period of time.

Smallmouth bass have been in a transition period.  They are done spawning and are now chasing minnow pods throughout the water column.  I caught very few last week.  The ones that I did catch were on the 12-15 ft weedline by Colemans Point.  You can still catch several fish on hair jigs however, the numbers are down significantly.

Largemouth bass has been the hottest bite on the lake.  They are on the large weed flats in Geneva Bay, Williams Bay and Trinkes Bay.  I’ve been concentrating on Williams Bay for the simple fact that we’ve had some harsh days with severe fog.  The bass can be caught on anything chrome; chug bugs, Pop-R’s or Zara Spooks.  The best depth has been in the 8-12 ft depth range.  The fish will remain in the shallow weed bed pattern for the next 7-10 days.

Lake Trout continue to bite in the main lake basin.  The best depth is 100 ft down in 110-120 ft of water.  Nickel/Green or Nickel/Chrome spoons are producing most of the action.  First light gives the best opportunity to catch fish.

Walleyes have started to show up at night.  They are being caught trolling crank baits in 15 ft of water around the weed flats.  The best location has been by Trinkes or Abbey Springs.  The best time to catch them has been after 9 p.m.

Bluegills have been biting very well in 8-10 ft of water.  The best locations have been by Knollwood or by Geneva Bay.  The best approach is a split shot rigged leaf worm fished approximately 1 ft off bottom.  The fish will remain shallow for the next couple weeks and then will start to move deeper.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
