Dave Duwe Delavan Lake Fishing report 7/14/14 through 7/21/14

Even though the boat traffic is intense, fishing continues to be very good.  There are multiple species active right now.  The best time for fishing is early p.m. or late evening to avoid some of the boat traffic.

Largemouth bass remain on the main lake points.  The best location has been by the Village Supper Club, the Yacht Club point or by Willow Point.   The best approach is either drop shotting a small Yum Houdini worm or a split shot rigged nightcrawler.  You want to fish the bait slightly outside of the weedline.

Northern pike action has been great.  The fish are in 15-22 ft of water.  They are aggressively hitting medium sized suckers about 1 ft off bottom.  The best location has been by Assembly Park or by Willow Point.

Bluegill action has been good in the 12-14 ft depth range.  Look for the fish by 3 flags or the concrete point.  You want to fish a split shot rigged leaf worm in and around bottom.  Most of the time the bluegills will hit on the fall of the bait.

Crappies are suspended outside the weedline in 15-18 ft of water.  They can be readily caught on a 1/32 oz jig head with a chartreuse body.  Look for the fish by Belvidere Park or just west of the Yacht club.  The fish seem to be suspended about 5 ft down.

Walleye fishing has been relatively slow.  Most of the action is coming off of trolling medium diving crank baits or jerking jigging Rapalas.  The best color has been chrome and blue or chrome and black for the jigging Rapalas.  Look for the fish by the concrete point or by 3 flags.  Fish for the early a.m. or late evening for the best chance of success.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
