Dave Duwe Delavan Lake Fishing Report 8/18/14 through 8/25/14

Delavan Lake fishing overall has been excellent.  The best bet on the lake is bluegills and largemouth bass.  The fish have remained shallower than normal.  The best depth overall is 6-10 ft of water.

Largemouth bass can be caught in 6-8 ft of water.  The fish can be caught on the Yacht Club point or Willow Point.    A lot of fish can be caught in and around the docks.  My best success is on medium suckers fished beneath a slip bobber.  Use a Thill Big Fish slip bobber 3 ft down in 6 ft of water.  I have been catching some bass on split shot rigged nightcrawlers cast out but the bass are hitting the suckers 2 to 1.

Northern Pike haven’t gone into the deep water yet.  The water temperature remains cool and that is keeping them shallow.  The best bite last week was in 6 ft of water.  The biggest fish were caught by the Yacht Club and by the Major Frank Lloyd Wright house.  I have been fishing medium suckers about 1 foot above the weeds.

The big bluegills have been aggressively hitting in the 10-13 ft depth range.  They are hitting on split shot rigged leaf worms.  Due to the depth, I’m just casting them out and letting the leaf worm free spin down.  The best location is west of the Yacht Club or in front of Browns Channel.

Walleye action continues to be slow.  The only success I’ve heard is coming in 21-24 ft of water on leeches.  The best approach is a lindy rig with about a 2 ft leader.

Crappie fishing has been a bit slow as well.  The fish are suspended 6 ft down in 20 ft of water.  Look for the fish east of Willow Point or west of the Yacht Club.  You want to use a 1/32 oz jig with green or purple plastic trailer.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
