Dave Duwe Delavan Lake Fishing Report 7/7/14 through 7/13/14

The summer patterns on Delavan Lake are in full swing.  The northern pike and largemouth bass are on the deep weedlines.  The walleyes have slowed quite a bit.  The one drawback for summer on Delavan Lake is the boat traffic.  Your best bet is early in the morning or in the evenings otherwise, it’s just too busy to fish.

The best bite on the lake has been largemouth bass.  They are on the weedline in 12-15 ft of water.  Anywhere you can find good pockets of weeds, the fish are going to be readily available.  The best location has been west of the Yacht Club or by Browns Channel.  They can be caught on a black and blue jig or a split shot rigged nightcrawler.  Some of the fish I caught last week were over 5 lbs.

Northern Pike action has been good when the weather has been warm.  When the cold fronts go through, the fishing slows tremendously.  Look for the fish by the gray condos, Willow point or by Browns Channel.  I’ve been using medium suckers, the smaller the better.  The fish are not aggressively taking the big bait this time of year.

Walleye fishing has been slow.  A few fish are being caught on Lindy rigged leeches during first light or in the evening.  The best action has been coming by Willow Point or by Delavan Lake Marina.  Work a water depth of 15-18 ft of water.  The walleyes have been just off the weeds.

Bluegill fishing has been fantastic.  The fish are in 12-14 ft of water on the outside of the weedline.  The best location has been by Assembly Park or just west of Willow Point. Split shot rigged nightcrawlers are the best bet.  Slip bobbers can also be effective.  Make sure if you are using a slip bobber you are positioning the bait one foot off bottom or one foot above the weeds.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
