Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
Great walleye bite this past week on the Wisconsin River system with a lot of fish being caught by guys long line trolling the edges of the main river channel with crankbaits in 6 to 10 feet of water. The panfish bite continues to be very good with limit catches of bluegills and crappies along with some nice perch. Most of the action is coming by working custom weedless jigs made by Rick Jaroch of Baitmaker Tackle. Action for bass is the best it has been all year long. Big bronzebacks are being caught on every trip with jigs and plastics or by throwing top water baits and spinner baits near shoreline structure. The musky bite has picked up drastically with action on every outing. Last week we had several nice fish over 40 inches with a couple pushing the 50 inch mark. Most of the action was on large bucktails and jerkbaits but we are still seeing some top water action as well. A nice mix of catfish has also been the norm on recent outings with some big cats over 30 inches showing up. Most of the fish are in deep holes in the main river channel and along steep shorelines. Bear hunters are bagging some nice bears this season with a few big bruisers in the mix. Here at Hooksetters all of our hunters are tagged out on nice bears with an exceptionally nice bruin taken by Wyatt Schoepke last Saturday afternoon with a muzzleloader. Congratulations again Wyatt on an outstanding job! Have a great week, Phil Schweik |
