Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
It has been another fantastic week here in central Wisconsin for outdoor activities. The weather has been about as perfect as one could want for fall activities and the hunting and fishing have been very good. Water temperatures are holding right around that 50 degree mark with good current flow on the Wisconsin River.
The musky fishing has been nothing short of phenomenal. We had several multiple fish days and we caught some really nice muskies. A lot of our action has been on live suckers but we are still seeing a few fish on Suick’s and surprisingly a couple of fish on Slippery Sam bucktails. I guess the warm weather has left the muskies with some aggression.
Walleye fishing has been fantastic. We are not only catching lots of walleyes but we are catching some real giants. We are catching a lot of fish in the 15 to 20 inch range but we are also catching quite a few surpassing the 25 inch mark and upwards of 28 to 30 inches. Most of these fish are being caught on jigs tipped with minnows but we are also getting a few of the nicer fish on crankbaits. The larger the bait the better!
With the rut in full swing we are seeing a tremendous amount of activity from larger bucks during the daytime hours. A lot of the activity that we have been seeing this past week has been between the hours of 8:00 am and 11:00 am. With that said don’t be afraid to spend the entire day in your tree-stand while targeting mature bucks as a lot of movement will be during the middle of the day as they search for does.
Have a great week,
Phil Schweik
